Search Tips
Our title search can be used to search our website
database which contains over 10000 titles published by Ashgate,
Gower and Lund Humphries. Our title search allows you to search for
ebook editions (which are available in both ebook PDF and ebook
ePUB formats from the specialist ebook resellers listed on our
ebook pages: www.ashgate.com/ebooks).
The title search ignores punctuation* and common words (such as
'The', 'And', 'Or', 'Where', 'With', 'When') as well as single
digits and characters entered as search criteria in order to make
the search quicker and more effective.
*If you are trying to search for names, such as O'Brien or
O'Daly, or for words with apostrophes within them, if you enter two
apostrophes (although not a set of double quotes) your search
will be successful (for example, you need to enter O''Brien or
O''Daly or Harrod''s - alternatively please search by entering an
alternative criteria, such as Harrod).
Searching by Title
The title search will display titles that match any of the
criteria you have entered, ordered by relevance. The search
criteria does not have to be entered in the same order as the title
of the book, for example, entering Islam Music will find
the title Music in the World of Islam.
Searching by Series Title
Many of our books are part of a series. If you want to search
for books within a series, enter a word from the series title in
the Series Title field, a list of series
titles that include this word will be displayed and you
can scroll through the available options. Once you have
highlighted the series you are interested in it is then
possible to either view a complete title list for that series
(simply press the Search button) or refine your
search by entering search criteria such as words from the book
title or an author name and pressing the Search
button.
Searching by Author Name
If you enter more than one word in the author name field the
search will show only results that match all the
words entered.
Searching by ISBN
You can enter ISBNs either as we display them in our promotional
material (including dashes) or without dashes (i.e.
978-0-7546-5022-5 or 9780754650225). Our website now lists only the
13 digit ISBNs that became the standard from 1 January 2007. It
is not possible to search by partial ISBN.
Subject
You can search by subject by entering the subject you are
interested in. A list of the subject areas that we
have titles for in our database will be displayed. You can
either use any of the other fields to refine your subject search or
simply display a full list of the active titles in our database
that are relevant to that subject by pressing the
Search button again. (You can also
'browse' through our subject areas by pressing the relevant subject
button on the left of the screen.)
ebooks
By selecting the appropriate option, you can choose whether to
include or exclude ebooks in your search results or to search only
for ebooks.
Advanced Search Options
If you want to search within the Contents, Blurbs
(title description) or by publication date you need to press the
'Advanced' button to access our Advanced search
fields.
Searching within Contents or Blurbs (title description)
The search will display titles that match any of the criteria
you have entered if you search on either of these fields. The
search criteria does not have to be entered in the order it appears
in these fields. Please note that this is quite a complex search
and entering more than one word as your search criteria may result
in the search taking some time to return a result.
Published
If you know the publication date of a book you can use our
Publication Date search. The following searches
are possible:
- Current month
- Last Month
- Current year
- Before selected date
- After selected date
If you select either Before selected date or
After selected date, two additional fields will be
displayed on the search screen for you to enter the 'selected
date'. Simply indicate the month and year of your selected date and
press the Search button.
It is possible to refine publication date searches by entering
search criteria in the Title,
Author, Series Title,
Contents or Blurb fields.
