More About Ashgate's Literary Studies List

Ashgate’s Literary Studies list features rigorously peer-reviewed, high-quality original research by authors from around the globe. We publish books from the medieval period through the twentieth century, and are proud of the range and innovativeness of topics represented. Integral to the list are a number of series exploring timely and topical themes.

Important development areas are:

  • modernism/modernist studies;
  • early American literature;
  • the interrelationship between literature and the history of science;
  • religion in literature and culture;
  • theatre history and performance studies;
  • women’s/gender studies;
  • Childhood studies;
  • Transatlantic/Transnational Studies;
  • book/publishing history and print culture.

Proposals for single-author volumes and essay collections are welcome. In addition, we encourage proposals and suggestions for essential reference works—for example, single or multivolume collections of groundbreaking essays on critical topics, bibliographical resources, and research companions on specialized subjects or canonical authors.

Commissioning editors for Literary Studies are Erika Gaffney and Ann Donahue.
